Alana's Story

How does your faith help when things are hard? My faith tells me that God, regardless of my deserving, loves me (and knows me, intimately--that still astounds me). And not just loves me, but forgives me when I mess things up. My mistakes are a sacred opportunity to learn (and relearn) humility which is really a sacred orientation to God. Sacred because in that failure, I am all too aware of my imperfections, for my need of God, and for the blessing of Jesus Christ coming into the world to remind us of the true Kingdom--and the true power. It is always Love. And that always, always makes me cry. :)
What keeps you coming back to HTP? The peeps! I am so blessed to be surrounded by so many faithful people at Holy Trinity. To learn from their quiet service, their consistent worship, their frustrations when the world doesn't look as it should, and their willingness to learn and grow in love and service. I also really like the donuts (Charlie said that).
What are you excited about at HTP? Mystics Class and my Sacred Ground discussion group. These two classes/discussion groups are really filling my cup right now. Mystics Class offers a lively space to take a deep dive into Christian mystical history, practices and texts. It really speaks my language, and I feel at home with my group. My Sacred Ground discussion group is a mix of both HTP and Church of the Epiphany parishioners, and we've grown close very quickly. I feel incredibly grateful for the AMAZING curriculum--a film and text-based discussion series on race--and to be doing this important and sacred work in a faith community.
