Assisting in Worship
In addition to the Celebrant, Presider, Officiant, Deacon, and Preacher, the following roles are included in Eucharistic Ministries:
Acolytes
Acolyte ministries include Crucifer, Server, Torch Bearers, Icon Bearer, Spinner, Thurifer, and Naviculara.
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is “God’s Housekeeper” in the Church. We prepare the Church, including the Altar for all services. We polish silver and brass, launder linens, order wafers, candles, wine, and secure repairs when necessary. We coordinate services for baptisms, weddings, funerals, and anything in between. Come join us in this most rewarding and necessary service of commitment. Contact: Anthea Purves, Margaret Hertlein.
Choirs
Holy Trinity has four choirs: The Adult Choir, the Handbell Choir, Gloria Deo (a liturgical choir for youth grades 5-8), and Faith Factory (children’s music and drama program)
Eucharistic Ministers
People in this ministry assist the clergy during worship services. Lectors are trained in reading the Word (lessons and psalms). Intercessors lead the Prayers of the People. Epistolers read the second reading (usually from the New Testament). Chalice Bearers assist in administering the chalice during Communion. Oblation Bearers carry the bread and wine to the altar during the Offertory. Lectors and Chalice Bearers are trained and scheduled well in advance of services. Contact: Larinda Tervelt.
Eucharistic Visitors
These folks share Communion from our services of Holy Eucharist to those who cannot attend. Contact: Mary Ellen Moore
Flower Ministry
The Flower Guild is responsible for obtaining and arranging flowers for the Altar for services and other events. Classes on flower arranging are occasionally available.
To donate flowers or candles for the Nave or Chapel for Sunday morning services, sign up name of donor, phone number, and dedication on the sign-up sheet on the table in the library. Flowers for the Nave or Chapel are $50.00. Candles for the Nave or Chapel are $10.00. Flowers are taken after the Sunday services to hospitals, nursing homes, and shut-ins by the Pastoral Callers. Contact: Jane Kinkade, Kimiko Miller.
Interpreters
Interpreters are available at the 10:30 a.m. service and for designated special services and parish gatherings.
Ushers
An usher is the first official representative of the church that anybody sees when they arrive and as such plays an important role in making the people feel welcome to the service. The usher has many duties, including greeting people entering the service, seating attenders, keeping order in the sanctuary, and distributing bulletins and service programs. Contact: Berkeley Boone.
Vergers
A verger is a committed lay minister within the Church who assists the clergy in the conduct of public worship, especially in the marshalling of processions. Vergers can be full-time or part-time, paid or volunteer. Their duties can be purely ceremonial or include other responsibilities, such as parish administration, leadership of the worship committee or sexton. Contact: Pete Withers.
