Daughters of the King
The Daughters of the King is an Order for laywomen who are communicants of the Episcopal Church. The Order is dedicated to a rule of daily prayer and service, a desire to know Jesus more fully, to be faithful and obedient, and to spread Christ’s Kingdom within the parish and in everyday life. Daughters meet the first Saturday of each month.
Feminist Theological Reflection Group
The Feminist Theological Reflection Group welcomes all women of the parish to join us in the study of Scripture and theology from a woman’s point of view. Social and ethical issues that confront women of the world are also discussed. Special emphasis is placed on the leadership of women in the early Church. Our social activities include a summer luncheon at Allatoona Lake and an Advent dinner with Eucharist at a member’s home. FTRG meets on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 pm in Tisdale Hall. We usually do two book studies a year. Please join us for an evening.
Thank God I’m 50ish (TGIF)
Who Are We?
TGIF is a women’s group for women aged 50 through 59 who come together as sisters in Christ to celebrate a new stage of life. Our philosophy and goals are simple: We come together as sisters in Christ to celebrate this new stage of life and to create an atmosphere in which we joyfully give thanks for health, happiness, and friendships.
Since this stage of life is often filled with the demands (and blessings!) of children, careers, aging parents, and volunteering, TGIF is a haven of fun and fellowship. This focus serves to balance life’s pressures and stresses by building community among women in the same wonderful stage of life.
Our kickoff luncheon was held in Tisdale Hall on January 18, 2004. At this first TGIF event we seized the opportunity to appropriately – and creatively – conduct our first “crowning” – and the precedent was set! Since then we have crowned many TGIFers celebrating their entry into a new stage of life.
And, best of all, once a member of TGIF, always a member! As a woman moves from age 59 to 60, she becomes a TGIF emerita and is always welcome at TGIF events and activities.
In the beginning…
TGIF grew out of a conversation that Assisting Priest Deborah Silver had with parishioner Scott Miller when they were both about to turn 50. Parishioner Jane Kinkade, a few years past 50, also joined the conversation. These three women recognized that they were in the midst of an exciting stage of life.
Women in their fifties, they theorized, have WISDOM gleaned from life experience along with ENERGY to pursue new possibilities and passions. Deborah, Scott and Jane agreed that this is a stage of life to savor and celebrate.
They believed that women in their 50′s had many reasons to say, “Thank God I’m 50-ish!” And so TGIF was born.
TGIF Events
The Annual Retreat
The intent of our annual week-end retreat is to have an opportunity to deepen relationships, enjoy one another’s company through a variety of shared activities like group hikes, sitting on the porch, riotous card games, eating – at any time day or night. Retreats end with a celebration of the Eucharist.
Birthday Celebration
At this event we welcome new 50-year-olds who receive special recognition, little treasures to commemorate the occasion, and, of course, chocolate!
TGIF Activities
An activity is anything – from lunch after church on Sunday to attending a movie or a play and having dinner together afterwards. Any TGIFer may suggest an activity and can e-mail information to other TGIF members themselves or send the message to our “e-diva” at tgif@htparish.com (tgif null@null htparish NULL.com) for distribution to the membership. Women participate as they are able and interested. For more information on TGIF, you may reach us by email at TGIF (tgif null@null htparish NULL.com)
