Pastoral Ministries at Holy Trinity

Pastoral support is offered in many ways at Holy Trinity. It is based not only on our promise to support one another in the baptismal life, but also on our concern for our neighbor. The clergy offer an active pastoral ministry as do the pastoral callers of the parish. Eucharist visitors take Holy Communion to those unable to attend services, while the parish health ministry supports the well being of the whole person.

Intercessory prayer is an important part of pastoral support. During services there is an opportunity to name those for whom prayers are desired. In addition, worshippers are invited to come to the altar to express thanksgivings and intercessions. Prayer chain members pray daily for all who seek their prayers.

Community support is crucial to pastoral ministry. Classes, retreats, foyer groups and ministry teams offer support to all who participate in them. On Sundays greeters welcome newcomers and seek to help them feel at home. Our outreach ministries provide pastoral support to people near and far with all sorts of needs.

The Guild of the Christ Child provides pastoral support to households with young children. Expectant parents (via birth or adoption) are encouraged to notify the parish so that we may celebrate and support you during your family’s growth. The Guild of the Christ Child needs you! We are expanding our ministries for baptism and families with young children. If you can help with outreach activities like partnering with a family for baptism or delivering a meal to new parents, please contact the parish office for more information.

Seniors in Action offer support and encouragement to older persons. The group meets once a month for a social and educational outing. Trips have included visits to the Carlos Museum of Emory University, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s annual Christmas concert, the Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial site, historic Atlanta cemeteries, and Spelman College. Contact the parish office for more information.

The Health Ministry at Holy Trinity is concerned with helping to make the connection between faith and health. This has been accomplished through blood drives, flu vaccinations, CPR training, Organ Donation Seminars and working with one of the women’s groups to host a seminar on women’s health. While our main focus is for the parish, many of our events draw participants from the surrounding community of Decatur. Please feel free to contact Virginia Hill if you would like to be a part of this ministry, or have any ideas of how we can expand our ministry.

Each of us needs to give and receive pastoral support. At Holy Trinity we are responding to this basic human need by taking to heart the words of Jesus: Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. And love thy neighbor as thyself.
